Unique magnet for Belgium
MYRRHA plays a crucial role in the development of SCK•CEN, the Kempen and Belgium. In September 2017, the consultancy office PwC analysed the socio-economic impact of building and operating this new research infrastructure in Belgium. According to those results, MYRRHA will bring major direct, indirect and induced socio-economic benefits. The added value to be created is estimated at nearly 7 billion euros, taking into account the spill-over effect and the creation of 34,000 full-time person/years of employment over the period 2018-2065. These benefits will be apparent both in Belgium and abroad, during the building phase as well as during the operation of the infrastructure.
The momentum resulting from the operation of MYRRHA will also create additional jobs thanks to new spin-offs and the implementation of new high-tech companies in the vicinity of SCK•CEN.
MYRRHA attracts specialists from all over the world and contributes to strengthening our international outreach and our reputation as a centre of excellence. Beside training new generations of experts, this massive global project also allows us to bond with several other research institutions, universities and companies in Belgium and abroad.
